That’s The Green Roots Project — a collaboration between Puddleduck Daycare Centre, Glen-Graze Sanctuary, and our amazing community to restore the land, nourish the soul, and heal both human and animal… one tree at a time.
A Food Forest is nature’s way of farming — a layered, self-sustaining ecosystem inspired by natural woodland. Instead of neat rows of crops, we plant in layers so every plant supports another.
The Seven Layers of Our Food Forest:
Tall Trees – Large nut and fruit trees for canopy shade and food.
Medium Trees – Apples, pears, and other smaller fruits.
Shrubs – Berries, tea plants, and medicinal shrubs.
Herbs – Culinary and medicinal herbs for health and flavor.
Ground Cover – Edible greens, strawberries, and nitrogen-fixing plants.
Root Crops – Sweet potatoes, turmeric, and ginger.
Climbers – Grapes, passionfruit, and beans climbing trees for extra yield.
Fruit & Nut Trees – Pecan, Almond, Macadamia, Mango, Apple, Pear, Plum, Citrus varieties, Avocado.
Medicinal & Support Trees – Moringa, Neem, Wild Olive, Spekboom (carbon sink), nitrogen-fixing Acacias.
Shrubs & Bushes – Blueberries, Gooseberries, Tea Bush, Medicinal Aloes.
Ground Cover & Herbs – Sweet Potatoes, Mint, Oregano, Thyme, Comfrey, Strawberries.
Traditional Forest Layout – Interlinked paths under a shaded canopy.
Fruit Tree Circles – Trees planted in circles with herbs in the center.
Living Temples & Arches – Trees and vines shaped into sacred structures.
Healing Spirals – Planting spirals for meditation and energy flow.
Edible Mazes – Circular mazes made of berry bushes and fruit trees for children and visitors.
Our Feed Lines are living fences of edible trees and shrubs for our rescue horses and livestock. These lines:
Provide natural shade and wind protection.
Offer leaves, pods, and fruits as nutritious supplemental feed.
Create natural biodiversity corridors for birds and insects.

How it Works:
You choose whether your tree goes to the Food Forest or the Feed Lines.
We plant your tree, care for it, and protect it until it’s thriving.

You’re invited to visit and see your tree grow over the years.
🌱 Living Ball of Fertility
Sow life, one ball at a time
For just R50, you can sponsor a Living Ball of Fertility — a hand-rolled clay and compost sphere infused with LAB & IMO2 microbes and packed with 10–20 diverse seeds.
Each ball is a living capsule of abundance: vegetables, herbs, flowers, and support plants chosen by season and need. Once scattered into the soil, the clay protects the seeds until the rains arrive. Then, the ball dissolves, releasing a burst of fertility, sprouting into new life for our food forest, feeding tree lines, and farm ecosystem.
